Government Security News Recognizes Consolidated Dispatch Center Utilizing Intergraph Technology

The Maryland Aviation Administration implemented Intergraph’s cohesive PSIM (I/Security) plus computer-aided dispatch system (I/CAD) with other technologies, forming a Consolidated Dispatch Center (CDC) at BWI located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland

August, 14 2014 – Huntsville, AL: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) Airport and Intergraph were recently recognized by Government Security News magazine’s Airport/Seaport/Border Security Awards program in the categories of Most Notable Airport Security Program, Large Airports and Best Physical Security Information Management System (PSIM). The Maryland Aviation Administration implemented Intergraph’s cohesive PSIM (I/Security) plus computer-aided dispatch system (I/CAD) with other technologies, forming a Consolidated Dispatch Center (CDC) at BWI located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The primary mission of the CDC at BWI is to provide emergency calls for service processing and dispatching for all airport police, fire, and emergency medical services. Using Intergraph’s public safety and security solutions, the Maryland Aviation Administration has a fully integrated platform, including all necessary software, hardware and integration services for multi-system and multi-agency coordination. The CDC monitors and responds to several thousand alarms generated from campus-wide safety and security systems. The CDC also functions as a secondary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to the Anne Arundel County PSAP to support airport emergency calls that are initially received by Anne Arundel County. The airport maintains numerous mutual aid agreements with various jurisdictions.

“This highly successful project provided our security and public safety personnel with cutting-edge emergency response technology,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, chief executive officer of BWI Marshall. “The improvements to the consolidated dispatch center help ensure increased responsiveness and situational awareness. We are honored by the recognition from Government Security News.”

In addition to Intergraph’s CAD system configured with automated vehicle locator (AVL) and mobile data computer subsystems, the integrated systems include: an enhanced 911 emergency call processing system with instant recall/recorder functionality, a National Emergency Number Association standard master clock system, a controlled access and closed circuit security system, a telephony system, a 911 database management system, a fire alarm monitoring system, a fire station alerting system, dispatch consoles and associated dispatch furniture. The fully integrated PSIM plus CAD allows complete situational awareness from detection to assessment to response through the integration of video and sensor system monitoring and control coupled with communications and dispatch capabilities.

MicroAutomation’s next generation 911 solution (NG911) was able to efficiently integrate all systems components including the airport’s existing 7 NEC phone switches. Their solution also includes a complete Standalone Automatic Location Identification (SALI) component that provides BWI with the ability to integrate their unique location information with traditional address information, and deliver it to dispatchers.

Intergraph is the leading global provider of public safety and security solutions. The company has provided and integrated highly reliable consolidated dispatch and security systems at airports such as O’Hare, Midway, San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham, Seattle-Tacoma, Pittsburgh, Reagan National and Washington Dulles.

“By relying on Intergraph’s products and experience, BWI Marshall Airport can achieve not only its short-term goal of enhancing emergency response processes, but also its long-term goal of statewide public safety communications interoperability,” said Steven Cost, president, Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure. “Intergraph is committed to providing its partners with the tools they need to minimize the risks posed by today’s security threats. We are proud to assist in protecting lives, property and infrastructure at BWI Airport.”
